Instagram is one application free to share photos with which users can apply photographic filters, frames and retro colors and vintage effects and share pictures on different social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. A distinctive feature of the app is that it gives a way to square and rounded at the tips to the photographs in honor to the Kodak Instamatic and cameras Polaroid.
The development of Instagram began in San Francisco, when Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom chose to focus its multifunctional HTML5 Arrivée Burbn in a mobile photography project. The product was launched on the Apple App Store on October 6, 2010 known as Instagram.
Shortly after the release, Josh Riedel joined the team as Community Manager. Shayne Sweeney joined the team in November 2010 as engineer and Jessica Zollman was hired as an evangelist of the community in August 2011.
In January 2011 Instagram added hashtags to help users discover the photos shared by other users. In September 2011 version 2.0 was launched on the App Store. New filters were included in live, instant Tilt Shift, photos, high resolution images, optional edges, rotation button and the update button.
On April 3, 2012 left open to the public for Android version. Some weeks earlier, Instagram had announced that it was conducting tests on Android using a closed beta. At the time, was given the possibility to register in one website to receive a notice once was released the final application, which they did about 430,000 people.
On 9 April 2012, it was announced that Facebook acquired the company for $ 1 billion.
In December 2010, Instagram had one million registered users. In June 2011 Instagram announced five million users and was able to spend ten million in September of the same year. Instagram announced that 100 million photos had risen to its service from July 2011. The total reached 150 million photos in August.
On March 11, 2012, Instagram announced that it had reached the figure of 27 million registered users. With the arrival of the Android application, expected that this number will increase even more.
